Pre-Exam Guide:
Prepare for Your EHE Health Exam

Your EHE Health exam includes 50+ labs and screenings tailored to your risk factors — far more comprehensive than a typical annual physical. Proper preparation ensures the most accurate results, helping our physicians identify early warning signs that conventional exams often miss.

Before You Arrive

One of the best parts of your EHE exam is that it includes more one-on-one time with your doctor than the standard physical. Use our curated question guides to help shape the conversation with your doctor based on your needs and demographic.

Please be sure to complete the Health Assessment on your myEHE portal. This allows us to gather all the information necessary to offer you a comprehensive experience.

What to Expect: Screenings

The EHE Health exam offers a full panel of screenings, all tailored according to your needs and risk factors. This includes:

  • Standard measurements, such as vital signs and body composition.
  • Screenings and risk assessments, including an EKG, cardiorespiratory fitness assessment, vision and hearing, and necessary cancer screenings. A pap smear and a breast cancer risk assessment are available as applicable to each patient.
  • Labs, such as lipid panel, complete blood count, and urinalysis.

Exam duration: 60-90 minutes of unrushed, one-on-one time with your physician

Not all patients are scheduled for all procedures. Refer to your EHE Appointment Confirmation to review your specific scheduled procedures.

Additional Recommendations

Fasting is not required but strongly recommended for the most accurate blood glucose and lipid panel results. When you eat and drink, nutrients in food can change the levels of various substances in your blood and affect the accuracy of your test results.

If you choose to fast:

  • Avoid food and all beverages except water for 8-12 hours before your exam
  • Do not drink coffee—even black coffee—as caffeine can skew results
  • Schedule your exam in the morning so most fasting time occurs while sleeping
  • Stay well hydrated with water, which keeps more fluid in your veins and makes blood draws easier

If you don’t fast:

  • Avoid heavy meals for 2 hours before your exam
  • Avoid caffeine for 2 hours before your exam
  • Arrive well hydrated

What to wear: Dress comfortably. At our seven owned and operated clinics, you may change into EHE-provided scrubs.

What to Expect: Follow-Ups

Your final report may include recommended screening referrals covered by your EHE Health benefit, such as a screening mammogram, breast ultrasound, coronary calcium CT scan, or colonoscopy. For colonoscopies, follow instructions provided to you directly from the non-EHE facility regarding fasting, medications, or other notes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the EHE exam take?

Your exam takes 60-90 minutes and includes unrushed, one-on-one time with a board-certified physician. Unlike conventional annual physicals that average 17-24 minutes, EHE physicians spend extended time assessing your physical, mental, and behavioral health risk factors to provide a comprehensive 360° picture of your health.

Do I need to fast before my exam?

Fasting is not required but strongly recommended for 8-12 hours before your exam for the most accurate blood glucose and lipid panel results. You can drink water during the fasting period—in fact, staying hydrated makes the blood draw easier. Avoid coffee (including black coffee), tea, and all food. If you have diabetes or take medications that require food, consult your physician before fasting.

Can I take my regular medications before the exam?

Yes, continue taking your prescribed medications as usual unless your physician has given you specific instructions otherwise. Take them with water if you’re fasting. If you take diabetes medications or insulin, consult your physician about timing, as fasting can affect blood glucose levels.

What's included in the 50+ labs and screenings?

Your exam includes standard measurements (vital signs, body composition), cardiovascular fitness assessment (EKG, cardiorespiratory fitness test), vision and hearing screenings, cancer risk assessments (skin screening, prostate/cervical/colon/breast screening measures as indicated), comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, complete blood count, HbA1C for metabolic health, urinalysis, and mental wellness evaluations (PHQ-2 Depression Screen, GAD-2 Anxiety Screen). All screenings are tailored to your age, risk factors, and individual needs.

How is this different from my annual physical with my primary care physician?

The EHE exam offers 100% of screenings recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, compared to the incomplete preventive care typically provided during primary care visits due to time constraints. EHE physicians spend 60-90 minutes with you versus the 17-24 minute average for conventional physicals. This exam complements (not replaces) your primary care relationship by focusing exclusively on prevention and early detection.

When will I receive my results?

You’ll receive your comprehensive health results on your myEHE portal. Your results include all lab findings, exam records, and a personalized action plan. No information is shared with your employer—all results remain confidential between you and EHE Health.

What happens if something concerning is found during my exam?

If our physician identifies a health concern requiring specialist examination, we coordinate referrals for you. Your final report may include recommended screening referrals covered by your EHE Health benefit, such as screening mammogram, breast ultrasound, coronary calcium CT scan, or colonoscopy. Our Health Navigation Center provides post-exam support including follow-ups, referrals, and coaching.

What if I have symptoms of illness on the day of my exam?

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or any upper respiratory illness, please reschedule for a later time when you’re healthy. To reschedule, email memberservices@ehe.health at least three business days before your appointment. Rescheduling ensures accurate baseline measurements and protects other patients and staff.

Can I bring questions for my physician?

Absolutely. One of the best parts of your EHE exam is the extended one-on-one time with your doctor. Use our curated question guides to help shape the conversation based on your needs and demographic. This is your opportunity to discuss health concerns, family history, lifestyle factors, and preventive strategies in depth.
