Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose where I get my Safe at Work™ clinical evaluation?
Your employer will determine if a clinical evaluation will be offered to verify your Safe at Work™ status. If instructions to complete a clinical evaluation do not appear in your Safe at Work™ account, you do not need to complete one at this time.
If you’ve completed the Exposure and Risk Questionnaire and it’s determined your risk for acute COVID-19 infection is low, you may be prompted to schedule your clinical evaluation. The scheduling tool allows you to select from among three locations near you.
Because of COVID-19, I’m nervous to visit a medical facility. What safety measures are in place with the Safe at Work™ clinical evaluations?
Yes. Every precaution is taken at every clinical location to ensure your safety. Hand sanitizer and masks are provided at the entrance. Safe at Work™ participants are taken directly to the screening area to reduce the number of people in the waiting area—where chairs are placed at least 6 feet apart. After each evaluation, all equipment and surfaces are disinfected.
Clinical staff are themselves screened for COVID-19 and fever prior to each shift. They wear personal protective equipment and are educated on COVID-19 symptoms in order to separate infected patients quickly and safely. Every step of the clinical evaluation is conducted in accordance with physical distancing guidelines and CDC protocol.
What do I need to bring to my Safe at Work™ clinical evaluation?
Please bring your Record Locator code, which will be given to you after you complete your Exposure and Risk Questionnaire. In addition, a valid driver’s license, employee identification card, or another official verification of your identity will be necessary for the clinical evaluation.
What if I’ve had a fever but a medical professional told me it’s unrelated to COVID-19?
If you’ve been experiencing “flu-like symptoms” (such as fever, body ache, or persistent cough), please contact your Safe at Work™ clinical evaluation location before your scheduled appointment. Be prepared to identify your symptoms and their duration.
It’s true that many of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 are also linked to seasonal flu and other unrelated conditions. To protect your safety, other patients, and clinical staff, it’s essential to communicate those symptoms to staff before coming to the location.
What exactly does the COVID-19 antibody test measure?
The COVID-19 test looks for the presence of IgG and IgM, two different types of antibodies in your blood. IgG antibodies are present if you’ve been exposed to the virus in the past. IgM antibodies are produced by your body in response to a current COVID-19 infection.
*Please Note: The Safe at Work™ program predominantly uses an antibody test, but different testing options (PCR, antigen) may be offered.
When will I get my results?
Your employer will determine if a clinical evaluation will be offered to verify your Safe at Work™ status. If instructions to complete a clinical evaluation do not appear in your Safe at Work™ account, you do not need to complete one at this time.
If you do complete a clinical evaluation you will get your results very quickly. The COVID-19 test takes approximately 10-15 minutes to produce results. The clinician will discuss the results with you during your appointment.
Will I know if I’m immune to COVID-19?
Yes and no. If your COVID-19 test results show the presence of IgG antibodies, this means you have been exposed to the virus in the past. In the event you are exposed again, these antibodies will lessen the chance of re-infection. Scientists are still researching how many IgG antibodies are needed for immunity and how long COVID-19 immunity lasts. COVID-19 is new and still being studied, so experts cannot yet be absolutely certain about issues like immunity. But this testing protocol is supported by the medical community’s current best understanding.
What factors determine whether I’m Safe at Work™ certified?
The COVID-19 Exposure and Risk Questionnaire assesses your risk of exposure to the virus and the likelihood that you have a current infection. The COVID-19 test at your in-person clinical evaluation identifies the type of antibodies present in your blood. The antibodies determine whether you may have a current COVID-19 infection, evidence of a previous COVID-19 infection, or no indication of any COVID-19 infection. The focused clinician assessment is used to detect any physical findings commonly linked to COVID-19.
The information obtained from the Exposure and Risk Questionnaire, COVID-19 antibody test, and clinician assessment together determine your COVID-19 status and whether you can safely return to work.
Will my employer have access to my medical information?
No. While it’s necessary for your employer to determine that you can safely return to the workplace, only your COVID-19 status will be known. Your full personal medical information is private and protected. This is true for every step of the Safe at Work™ evaluation, whether you’re screened at an EHE Health clinic or another provider.
Will my coworkers know my medical information?
No. You and your coworkers should all be guaranteed a safe and healthy work environment. Understanding your COVID-19 status is critical to protecting everyone’s health. But your personal medical information is private and protected, whether you’re screened at an EHE Health clinic or another provider.
How do I log in if I don’t have a work email address?
If you do not have a work email address, please try the email address you believe your employer has on file for you. If that email is not recognized, please contact your human resources representative to confirm what email address was provided.
What if I don’t see anything about a clinical evaluation in the Safe at Work™ portal?
Your employer will determine if a clinical evaluation will be offered to verify your Safe at Work™ status. If instructions to complete a clinical evaluation do not appear in your Safe at Work™ account, you do not need to complete one at this time.
